The Advisory Committees have determined that specific chain details cannot be shared with patients participating in KPD. What can be shared? High-level information about the Match Cycle is always appropriate for sharing. Details including chain length, number of programs involved, and transplant locations is not permitted.
It is best to highlight your donor’s contribution to the Match Cycle in its entirety. Each individual donor is required to create the chains in a Match Cycle. Each match facilitates the next and they are all interconnected. Without your donor, the total number of transplants in the cycle would not be possible.
To help you provide accurate information, the KPD Program data is maintained in real-time on the Canadian Blood Services Professional Education Website. Data includes: KPD Program Results, Match Cycle Activity, KPD Registered Candidates, Transplant Recipients and NDADs by PHN Province as well as information about KPD Chains/types and the Power of the Anonymous Donor.
